Alicia Keys says music saved her

Alicia Keys says music saved her from a troubled youth. The ‘No One’ singer grew up in the tough Hell’s Kitchen district of New York and revealed her single mother Terri Augello sent her to dance and music lessons to keep her off the streets.
She said: “It was the best thing she ever did for me. I’d go and hang out with my friends, but would only do it for 45 minutes as I had to get to my next class. My extracurricular lessons gave me a real sense of focus and drive and they helped to keep me out of trouble.”
The 27-year-old singer has also spoken openly again about carrying a knife for protection when she was a teenager.
She added: “Gang culture was everywhere and there were altercations all the time. You’d often find yourself in situations where you wished you had something more than just your hands. So I would carry around a little shank, a home made knife. When my mother found it she was so upset and couldn’t understand why I had it. I needed a knife, just in case. I definitely understand that feeling of wanting to protect yourself.”
50 Cent’s Posse Member Gets Busted

Cops have arrested a guy in rapper 50 Cent’s camp for allegedly assaulting a woman viciously. Law enforcers say that they received a call from the rapper’s home in Farmington, Connecticut around 2:59 AM on Wednesday from the alleged victim. Dwayne McKenzie was popped for allegedly choking and hitting a woman with a belt which took place on 50’s property. When cops arrived, they saw that the woman had visible injuries consistent with her complaint. McKenzie has been charged with strangulation, assault, breach of peace and unlawful restraint. He has since been released on $10,000 bail. No word on what 50 thinks of the matter.
No Prison Wedding for Remy Ma

Remy Ma, whose real name is Reminisce Smith, is sitting tight in jail serving 8 out of the possible 25 years she was facing for shooting her friend, Makeda-Barnes Joseph, in the stomach. Oddly enough, the rapper was set to get married in jail over the last weekend to her fiancé Papoose (real name Shamele Mackie). However, the wedding was called off after a visitor was found with a handcuff key which could have easily opened handcuffs most law enforcement officials use. A corrections officer said that “The visitor was sanctioned by not being able to visit Rikers Island again for six months. He was asked to leave.†Luckily, the visitor wasn’t charged after he voluntarily surrendered the key to the authorities.
Pete Doherty has been released from jail

Pete Doherty has been released from prison.
The Babyshambles singer was released from London’s Wormwood Scrubs at 7.10am this morning (06.05.08). He had served 29 days of a 14-week sentence for breaching his probation. Dressed in a suit and tie, he revealed outside the prison that he was pleased to be out and looking forward to having a rum and coke and spending time with his pet cats.
When asked if he had taken drugs in prison, the singer replied: “Well, I knew it was going to be a bit rough to start with, with the overcrowding and the medical facilities. Although they do their best - they are good, they can’t really cater for the average junkie.”
Pete also showed off a certificate stating he had passed a drugs test while in prison. The singer was jailed after breaching probation terms which required him to take part in a drug rehabilitation programme and make regular visits to court for progress reports.
He was jailed by District Judge Davinder Lachhar after it was revealed the rocker had regularly been late or missed probation appointments and had used various drugs.
Lil Kim’s Repossessed Car

Lil Kim’s silver Bentley got repossessed earlier this week and it was filmed by New York’s CW11 for a report they have on repossessions. When the rapper was confronted by the reporters and cameras, she responded with “Oh please, get the fuck out of here. You are so fucking ridiculous.†She has some sort of a point there. It turns out that the car they got wasn’t even bought by Kim but was actually a gift to her. Now who the heck would give a way a Bentley? Enter Scott Storch. The car was supposedly given to Kim 4 years ago by the music producer as they allegedly had a very friendly relationship, if you know what I mean. It wasn’t just Kim that suffered in this repo deal. Scott also had his yacht repossessed recently. Ouch!

Ne-Yo Gets Busted

Cops are certainly getting their work cut out for them by celebrities. It seems that there’s one celebrity getting arrested each week. The most recent is R&B singer Ne-Yo. The singer, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, was arrested on Tuesday in Cobb County, Georgia for reckless driving and for not having a valid license.
As far as his mug shot goes, I have only one thing to say. Now I know why he’s always wearing beanies and hats. What the heck is up with that receding hairline? Someone needs to rush to the Hair Club for Men. Maybe that’s why he was speeding.
Hospitalization for Prodigy Keeps Him Out of Jail

I wouldn’t have thought to enter the hospital to stay out of jail. Prodigy, a rapper for G-Unit, was supposed to have turned himself in yesterday on a 3 1/2 year rap for possesion of a gun. However, he’s out for at least another week while he is in the hospital suffering from complications of sickle cell anemia.
He’s already been out an extra month. He is suffereing from severe lung pain and may end up having to have a hip replacement.
A judge will rule next week as to whether he remains in the hospital or has the surgery in a state prison system.
Kanye Still Hiding

Kanye West, the rapper who’s known for his enormous ego just as much as his music, has been keeping a low profile since the passing of his mother. He has taken a major turn away from his massive self-promotion campaign, his feud with 50 Cent and has chosen to just stay quiet. He was recently spotted over in West Hollywood last week and even his style has become low profile. Gone were the signature shades and flamboyant attitude. All that was seen of Kanye was a hoodie covering his face, trying not to catch a lot of unnecessary attention. You better snap out of it soon Kanye! The world needs another ego to fight off John Mayer’s and 50’s! They’re just douche bags anyway.
Joss Stone “not bothered”

Critics and fans alike panned singer Joss Stone, following an infamous display at the Brits in 2007, as she unveiled a new haircut and an American accent. However, although she now admits to being shocked at the response, Stone says in a new interview that she’s not really bothered.
At the end of the day, I don’t give a f**k if people have a problem with my accent. That’s all I can say about it. The words I say do not change”, she explained. “If the way that it sounds is skew-whiff and you don’t like it, don’t listen. I’m not being a cruel person by sounding a different way.”
The singer has seen her pop profile and album sales plummet in the UK since being relaunched for last year’s “Introducing Joss Stone” album. However, her fan base in the USA, where the record was made, remains steady.
Speaking about the backlash, she continued: “I made my album with a bunch of Americans. When people go to Australia for two weeks they come back sounding Australian - but the whole world doesn’t turn round and say, ‘Well, f**k you.’ Which is basically what England had done. Obviously not everybody in England. But the big press people. They were just like, ‘You know what? We’ve decided we don’t like you anymore.’
I always though Joss was such a polite and innocent type of girl. Oh well, fair enough.
Doggy Heart Attack

Nate Dogg, the cousin of Snoop Dogg, has reportedly suffered what was described as a heart attack. TMZ obtained the 911 call that was made and the caller has to be the most nonchalant person to ever walk the planet. It almost sounds like she’s making an everyday call and not for a guy who’s life may be on the line.
Since the original incident, reports are saying that Nate actually suffered a stroke and not a heart attack. The 38-year old rapper is currently in a medical rehab facility recovering from the stroke but no other information on his condition has been made available.
Joel Madden is a Proud Poppa

Joel Madden is showing everyone just how much of a proud father he is when he just posted a blog entry about his new life as a father on his DCMA Collective website.
In his entry in which he proudly proclaims that “It’s a girl!”, he dishes the details on the birth of daughter Harlow Winter Kate. She was born on January 11th, 2008 at 3:13PM. The bouncing baby girl weighed in at 6lbs. and 7oz., and is 19 inches long. He also spoke of who the girl looks like saying “She looks so much like her mom it’s crazy! She eats like a little maniac and she’s really sweet. She barely ever cries, even when daddy is changing her diaper, and believe me, I suck when it comes to diapers, but I’m learning! I can’t wait to show off some pictures.”

Alicia Keys looked magical in magenta when she walked the red carpet at the 2008 BET Honors at the Warner Theatre on Saturday night in Washington DC. The 27-year old, 9-time Grammy Award winning singer took home the Entertainment Award for her achievements and contributions as a leader in the entertainment industry.
See, this is how you make a big splash in your field of work. Why can’t all the Britney’s, Paris’ and Lindsay’s of the world just be traded in for people like Alicia? The world will be a much better place. Congratulations Alicia! And thanks for being a good role model.

Madonna is still vacationing in India. She’s been on holiday since we rang in the New Year. Sources are saying that she’s on an extended vacation as a way to recharge her batteries as she gets ready to release a new album later this year and a subsequent tour.
The Queen of Pop and her family were spotted taking in the sights on Saturday. She spent time with her family by going horseback riding, learning native dance and shopping. The only member of the family who wasn’t spotted with her that day was little David Banda. Where could he have been?
Black Eyed Pea Breaks a Leg

In the world of show business, it’s usually good luck to tell someone to break a leg. It’s a figure of speech. But in this case, it appears someone had taken it literally.
Photographers spotted Black Eyed Peas front man will.i.am outside of Katsuya on Sunday and he was sporting and unfortunate new look which was completed by crutches. He was in high spirits though and even joked about possibly bedazzling his newest accessories to match his regular wear. He even said that his New Year’s wish was to not break his other foot. Get well soon will.i.am! Break a leg at not breaking another leg.
Eminem’s Mom is Dying

Debbie Nelson, Eminem’s mother, is writing a book about her relationship with her son. Personally, I think it’s a few years late for it but she has her reasons. Sources close to the rapper’s mom have revealed that Debbie is writing a book about her famous son because she needs some cash to pay the medical bills.
An insider leaks out that Debbie is about to die of stage 4 breast cancer. “She needs the money to pay medical bills and he won’t talk to her so that’s her open letter to him.” The source also adds that “Em agreed to try to help her pay some medical bills and try to get her insurance but couldn’t because of the pre-existing medical condition.”
Ashlee’s New Video

Ashlee Simpson is still a singer everyone! The younger Simpson has actually filmed a new music video for her song ‘Outta My Head (Ay Ya Ya). The video was directed by Alan Ferguson earlier this month. It shows Ashlee seeking counseling after an opinion overload from the voices of her family, record executives, fans, haters and the media.
Pete Wentz told MTV news what he thought about the video saying “It’s probably the weirdest video I’ve seen of hers. It’s like a Salvador Dalí painting meets ‘Being John Malkovich’. She just went to this weird place for it. It has this kind of multiple personality, like the song does.”
The video will premiere on TRL on December 20.

The music industry may be dying but they were still able to make something of it.Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood are the most notable Idols of 2007. Daughtry is the biggest selling artist in the US for 2007 as his album sold 3.2 million copies this year while Carrie Underwood’s ‘Some Hearts’ sold 2.3 million copies.
Disney star Miley Cyrus is the biggest selling female artist of the year, selling 2.5 million copies of the ‘Hannah Montana’ soundtrack. Akon sold 2.7 million albums while Fergie sold 2.4 million copies of her debut album which was released in 06.
Pimp C Laid to Rest

Rapper Pimp C, real name Chad Butler, has been laid to rest. He was found dead last week in his room at Hollywood’s Mondrian Hotel. His funeral took place in Port Arthur, Texas where KFDM-TV cameras caught the hearse pulling up to the Robert A. Bowers Civic Center in the rapper’s hometown.
According to KFDM, fellow rappers Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg planned on attending but did not show up. His one time collaborator C-Murder wasn’t able to show up either as he is currently on house arrest awaiting a murder retrial.
Hospital Visit for Bow Wow

He’s all grown up now, and he’s a little stressed out.After a Thursday night concert, Bow Wow was rushed to a local hospital. His label says he was suffering from “stress and exhaustion”. He’s been on tour with Chris Brown, Sean Kingston, and Soulja Boy.
The rest of the acts were headed to Chicago, but Bow Wow wasn’t planning to hit the stage with them Friday night. His rep says he’s making plans to come back to Chicago soon.
