Fantasia Shocks Simon

American Idol season three champion Fantasia Barrino performed her new single ‘Bore Me’ during Wednesday’s elimination show of American Idol. The former champ shocked viewers with her bright red hair and a black bejeweled jumpsuit. It’s one of those things that you replay in your head (or your TiVo) just to check if it really happened. The best reaction may have come from Simon Cowell who was at the judges table looking aghast with his mouth hanging open. I guess he never expected his sweet little Fantasia of seasons past to turn out like that. Oh how the times have changed.

American Idol Top 4

The American Idol top 4 took to the stage this week singing songs by Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees. David Archuleta got the thumbs up from all three judges on his two songs ‘Stand By Me’ and ‘Love Me Tender’. The judges were split on Syesha Mercado’s songs ‘Proud Mary’ and ‘A Change is Gonna Come’. David Cook struck out with ‘Hungry Like the Wolf’ but came back strong with ‘Baba O’Reilly’. Jason Castro, however, just couldn’t catch a break by being too predictable with ‘I Shot the Sheriff’ and forgot the lyrics to ‘Mr. Tambourine Man’. At this point, that’s a big mistake for the dreadlocked Idol.

Latest American Idol Castoff

On the elimination show of American Idol, it seemed like a theme was still part of the night. The final 7 performed Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men’s ‘One Sweet Day’. After Elliot Yamin’s performance, he talked about the recent death of his mother and how he misses her and then Mariah Carey performs a song called ‘Bye Bye’ talking about loved ones that have passed away. And speaking of goodbye, Kristy Lee Cook was the latest to be cast off. She was joined by Brooke White and Syesha Mercado in the bottom 3. It was a pretty interesting elimination night when David Archuleta was asked to choose from the groups of David Cook, Jason Castro and Carly Smithson vs. the bottom 3 group (then unknown) for who he thinks is safe. David chose to sit down in the middle.

Carrie Underwood at CMT Awards

Carrie Underwood struck a glamorous pose in a purple one-strap mini as she attended the 2008 CMT Music Awards which was held at the Curb Events Center at Belmont University on Monday is Nashville, Tennessee. The only thing that would have been better than this is if she has a hunk of a man beside her. Carrie is way too hot to not have a man! Damn you Chace Crawford! Anyway, the American Idol alum not only attended the show but she also performed. Other performers at the ceremony were Alan Jackson, Brad Paisley, Sugarland, Taylor Swift and Toby Keith.

American Idol Rocker Cast Off

amanda-overmyer-american-idol.jpg

In a first, American Idol producers chose to do a Beatles theme for the second time in one season – and back to back too! While there’s a lot in the legendary band’s catalog to choose from, it seems that most of the contestants didn’t know which was what. A lot of them sucked on that show! As for who paid the price – Amanda Overmyer was cast off the show. Kristy Lee Cook, who in my opinion should have left last week, was also in the bottom three. The third member was Carly Smithson. Shocking! Among the girls, she’s the golden girl – at least when it comes to her vocal chaps.

Paula’s Pampering Pals

paula-abdul.jpg

When she opens her mouth, chances are you will need a translator to figure out what Paula Abdul is saying. But you can usually bet it’ll be something juicy. Such was the case when she dropped by the “Morning Mash Up” on Sirius Radio today.

As Paula dished about how essential manscaping was, she brought up something unusual about a couple of guy friends of hers. She says these friends, “a British one and an American one with blond hair, who go to get Botox and fillers and manicures and pedicures more than I do! That’s not normal.”

Now, I may not be the brightest candle in the box, but that sounds like Simon Cowell and Ryan Seacrest. When ya think they’ll come out of the metro closet?

American Idol Rip Off

david-cook-american-idol.jpg

The rocker of this season’s American Idol, David Cook, was on fire with his rendition of the Beatles classic ‘Eleanor Rigby’ on Tuesday night but a Seattle band is claiming that he ripped off the arrangement from them. The band Doxology recorded their version of the song over a year ago and put it up on iTunes and the band’s MySpace. Their manager claims that the song is what they’re best known for and have played it at nearly 200 shows. They say that they have no intention of suing but they are trying to get in touch with the show hoping to at least get a bit of props.

American Idol is All for the Boys

david-archuleta-american-idol.jpg

It is being reported that, as of now, the recording industry has absolutely no interest in the female contestants in American Idol as their focus is exclusively on two male contestants. Some well-connected record industry sources say that the major publishers which include Sony and Warner have their sights set on David Archuleta and David Hernandez. The big wigs have already told their songwriters to write songs specifically for the two Davids whether they win or not. Idol sources say that this is the earliest that publishers have ever committed to the contestants.

Jordin Sparks has No Air

jordin-sparks.jpg

Jordin Sparks was on TRL for their ‘Spankin’ New Ladies Week’ at the MTV Times Square Studios in New York City on Monday. She performed her new single ‘No Air’ which features Chris Brown. There was no Chris who performed with her though. The 18-year old American Idol champ also premiered the video for her new single.

Honestly, does anyone still care for the girl or what she does? I’m predicting another fallen idol in the horizon. It looks like Carrie Underwood is the only one left who’s still going strong. Country definitely has its benefits as it’s the highest selling on all music genres right now.

Paula and Randy’s Singalong

paula-and-randy.jpg

The American Idol judges took advantage of some time away from Simon and decided to pair up for a single on Randy’s new album. Fans are enthusiatic about the song, which they debuted on Ryan Seacrest’s radio show. They can’t wait for Simon to hear it.

Paula says, “He’s going to be sick. He’ll be sick all season.”

The two decided that the single “Dance Like There’s No Tomorrow” was the perfect song for Paula’s comeback. They heard the song while they were at San Diego auditions. Paula remembers, “Within five second, Randy said, ‘This is you.’”

Best of luck to the two hopefuls….

Carrie Underwood on Women’s Health

carrie-underwood.jpg

American Idol alum, one of the few that hasn’t been dropped by a record label, Carrie Underwood is in the January/February issue of Women’s Health magazine. In her cover article, she gets asked about everything from Tony Romo, being a vegetarian and wanting to be a news anchor. But what was most interesting for me was when she spoke of her weakness for 80s hair metal.

“I remember singing Motley Crue’s remake of ‘Smokin’ in the Boys’ Room’ in front of the mirror. That was the age of the real ‘rock star.’ I would like to have experienced that first-hand.” Who knew that the little country girl liked to head bang?

Idol Leftovers

blog4-american-idol.jpg

American Idol alum Fantasia Barrino is becoming widely known for blowing off her performances but apparently, she blows off her fans too. The signer gave her final ‘Color Purple’ performance on Sunday and after the show ended at a still early 6PM, fans waited by the stage door to get her autograph until 8:45PM only to be told that Fantasia had already left.

Lucky for them, another Idol was there to sign some autographs in the shape of LaKisha Jones who also stars in the production. LaKisha happily gave autographs to the fans not even caring that she was actually signing pictures of Fantasia.

Music of 2007 - Review

blog7-chris-daughtry.jpg

The Idols and the Disney stars are rulers of the 2007 music scene. The music industry may be dying but they were still able to make something of it.Chris Daughtry and Carrie Underwood are the most notable Idols of 2007. Daughtry is the biggest selling artist in the US for 2007 as his album sold 3.2 million copies this year while Carrie Underwood’s ‘Some Hearts’ sold 2.3 million copies.

Disney star Miley Cyrus is the biggest selling female artist of the year, selling 2.5 million copies of the ‘Hannah Montana’ soundtrack. Akon sold 2.7 million albums while Fergie sold 2.4 million copies of her debut album which was released in 06.

Bobby Brown to Go Country

bobby-brown-to-go-country.jpg

Hell has frozen over. Bobby Brown has decided to try his luck at the country music business. And yes, it includes cowboy hats, yee-haws and the whole shebang. Houston, we may have a problem.

Bobby has reportedly signed up for the new CMT show ‘Gone Country’ where John Rick will attempt to re-invent the career of Bobby Brown as a country superstar. What the heck?

Carnie Wilson, Dee Snider, Sisqo, Julio Iglesias Jr. and former American Idol hopeful Diana DeGarmo are also set to be part of the show. There are some mighty questionable names on that list. And Bobby is definitely leading the pack.

Mandisa Gets Respect

mandisa_hundley.jpg

While some of her fellow Idol wannabes are off playing high-profile gigs at malls and housing developments, please do note the sarcasm, Season 5 castoff Mandisa rocked the house at a South Carolina fair.

The big-voiced diva was the headliner for the Fall for Greenville festival last week. She sang covers of classics including Aretha Franklin’s ‘Respect’. She may have gotten the respect of the crowd because of that but it looks like respect is something that she and Simon Cowell will not give to each other. Ouch.

But hey, way to represent all the big and beautiful ladies out there by still working hard doing what they love.

Kelly Clarkson on Tour

kelly-clarkson.jpg

Try and try until you succeed. That’s a line that Kelly Clarkson seems to believe.

Despite her latest album ‘My December’ being a certified flop commercially, Kelly is still intent on going on tour in support of the record. She had to cancel an arena tour this past summer due to poor ticket sales. A tour went on though, just in smaller venues.

She also has no plans to record another album any time soon. Doesn’t she want to get her name and her music out of the dirt? A new and better album is the only way Kelly! Get your act together before you turn into Britney.

The Object of Jordin’s Affection

blog9-jordin-sparks.jpg

Everyone has been speculating that American Idol winner Jordin Sparks has sparked up a flame with runner up Blake Lewis. But it seems that we’ve got the story all wrong.

Jordin has set her eyes on a fellow Idol but it’s not Blake. It’s Chris Richardson! She and Blake are close friends but Jordin reportedly has a huge crush on Chris despite his partying habits and penchant for hanging out with the likes of Lauren Conrad of Laguna Beach and The Hills fame.

Jordin is only 17 compared to Chris’ 23 which is why her minders and family are doing everything to keep her from straying away from a bright future. Sexy, beautiful, talented and off limits. The dog would want her more, don’t you think?

American Idol Tour 2007

blog5-american-idol.jpg

The American Idol Tour 2007 has officially kicked off. The 56-date, 35-state American Idols Live tour started at the Bank Atlantic Center in Sunrise, Florida last Friday.

Blake Lewis and Jordin Sparks sing more than most but that’s a given. Black ends the first half of the show with a three-song finish while Jordin ends the show with a six-song finish which includes her Idol single ‘This is My Now’.

The performances were also mixed up with some theatrics. One of the more comical ones being Jordin and Melinda Dolittle’s performance of ‘This Will Be’ wherein they are seen fighting over Chris Richardson.
Everyone shows off their respective talents – yes, even Sanjaya.

Blake Trumps Jordin

Blake Lewis may have lost the American Idol title to Jordin Sparks but that doesn’t mean he has to play second fiddle. In something reminiscent of Clay Aiken and Ruben Studdard, Blake’s cover of Bon Jovi’s ‘You Give Love a Bad Name’ is #9 on the charts while Jordin’s ‘This is My Now’ is at #14.

Jordin may have the bigger voice that can be packaged better but Blake has the ‘it’ factor and the mass appeal. America… me thinks you voted wrong again.

In other chart news, the #1 spot still belongs to Rihanna and the catchy ‘Umbrella’. Fergie climbed up to #3 with ‘Big Girls Don’t Cry’. Other big gainers include Gwen Stefani with ‘4 in the Morning’ which jumped from #65 to #56, Amy Winehouse with ‘Rehab’ jumped from #55 to #30 and Nelly Furtado with ‘All Good Things’ jumped from #93 to #68.

Congrats to the ladies.
